Tottenham are back in action this weekend when they host Newcastle United in the early kick off at Wembley Stadium on Saturday and will be hoping for another three points.
Tottenham scored a late winner against Watford in midweek to move within two points of second placed Manchester City. Tottenham fans would have wanted a longer cup run as it represented a more realistic chance of winning silverware, but attention have now shifted to pilling the pressure on the front runners, and they should be motivated to get the win here as both teams dropped points in midweek.
Morale should be high in the Newcastle United camp. A shock comeback win against Manchester City means it is now back to back wins for Newcastle, and that has boosted their chances of survival significantly, though the Magpies have failed to win in three away from Tyneside.
Rafa Benitez’s side have also lost the previous three meetings with Tottenham, the form at Spurs has been pretty solid though, winning three of their last four trips to north London.
That being said, Spurs have won eight of their last 10 league games and they should be looking to improve on their home form where they have won 7 and lost 4. In fact, they are yet to draw a match in the league this season.
Harry Kane and Dele Alli is still out as well as Ben Davies. But the sight of Heung-Min Son making a scoring return from the Asian Cup would have been pleasing to the Spurs fans. He however suffered a cramp in the win over Watford and he’ll have to be assessed to determine if he’s fit enough to start or restricted to a role on the bench.
Tottenham should edge a match in which both teams are expected to find the back of the net.
